XXL coat size

Friday, February 26, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
Hello, I have a XXL chore coat that I love and have had for many years, but is now showing it's age so I want to replace it. I ordered a new one online and noticed you now go chest size so I used your sizing chart which says XXL = 50-52 so my chest measures a little better than 50 so I ordered a 52. I just received it and it is huge. The lenght is above 1 1/2" longer than the old one ang the arms are about 2" longer and very wide compared to the old one. My dilema is I need to exchange the one I have for a smaller one but I'm not sure if 50 will be the same dimensions as the old one. The chest of the new one is also pretty big so I'm thinking the size 50 may also be too big. Is there any way to tell which size will better match the size of my old coat?

hood a148

Friday, February 26, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
Is there really only one size for this hood? because it is not large. I can't fasten it if I wear a hat. My coat is 2 xl but I am not that big. this is not one size fits.

Regular and Slim Fit?

Friday, February 26, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
The craftmanship seems great but not sure if I will ever actually own a Carhartt product beyond the return period. How about a size that fits people that are not overweight? I'm a 38 chest and 31 waste, but I am swimming in the medium shirt jac and the 38 Reg Duck Chore Coat. The sleeve and neck is right, but apparently I should have another 50 pounds in the torso. The chest area is a better fit than the torso but even the chest area seems generous.

In Your Words: "Thanks!" From Martin W.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 by Carhartt Blog Team

Our mailbox is always full of letters from customers. We love hearing from you! Below is a letter from Martin W. from Staten Island, New York. Thanks for writing, Martin!

"I haven't any questions for you, they've all been answered while working the tug's where the winters are relentless, My duck's in a very speacial way can be a real life-saver for me and I would like to tell you why.......... On the tug's there are many, many opportunities to get hurt or even taken out, always turning my head quickly to watch a cable or line I don't find myself looking into darkness as the hood turns the moment I do. I need a very snag-free coat and the duck provides just that. The toughness of the outershell warns off most snags and without ripping, though snagged several times on the zipper-flap the velcro was quick to release it. Warmth? The cold air cannot blow up the sleeve because of the closure around the wrist's and if you lower the zipper just a few inches in -20 degrees you can actualy feel the heat come out of the coat to warm your face, espeacialy after taking a wave over the bow. When I break in a rookie a carhartt duck w/hood is lesson # ONE. So why am I writing?....somewhere along the line here I need to thank some one.

Thank you Carhartt!"

The Last Day in Antarctica

The Last Day!

Although I'm sad to leave, I am very glad to have come, and to have many excursions while visiting Antarctica . I'm sure that as I begin to go through my pictures and process the entire experience in the next couple days, I'll have some additional things to add. But for now, I'll just cherish in the gladness of being able to visit the "ICE" while field testing of carhartt products, blogging about my journey, and dwell in the sadness of having to leave. Many thanks go out to ALL the readers and the People in Carhartt's Coporate Office who made this Dream of mine come true and last but not least my Mother Jane E. Schiesl who has stood by my choices, decisions and consequences (good and bad) of my entire life.

snap on hood

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
The company I work for recently got us new jackets. The jackets are waterproof but don't have a hood. I have to wear the company jacket so buying a full waterproof jacket from Carhartt is not an option. I purchased a Carhartt waterproof hood but I can't find snaps anywhere that I can add to my work jacket to attach it. How do I go about getting the proper snaps and will I be able to install them at home with the standard snap installation pliers?

This will mark the second time you have stopped making my favorite work bibs in the last 20 years. The carpenter bib.I am a hydro mechanic for chelan co pud and find the front pockets to be one of the most useful thing about your bibs, to hold various tools. So the question is what are your plans for these bibs...I miss them already

My Tough Job: Student, hunter, son, logger

Saturday, February 20, 2010 by Tough Jobs

My name is James and I'm from Silverdale, Washington.

Even though I'm only 17 I have known the value of both hard work and Carhartt from a very young age. My father bought me my very first Carhartt canvas jacket at age 7 in the great state of Montana. I've been hooked ever since. Now at 17, I work as a full time high school student, an orthodontic assistant, a log splitter at home, and the son and grandson of wheat farmers. What I love about Carhartt clothes is that I can go straight from a physics or calculus class to the orthodontic office and then off again back to be with my family and friends and never miss a beat meanwhile. I have worn Carhartt for 10 years and they've been with me through many hunting, fishing, hiking, school, and camping trips. When you compare Carhartt to other clothes, well lets be honest, there is no comparison. Nothing beats the feeling of a brand new, very stiff, canvas Carhartt jacket with the key to my first truck within the pocket. Carhartt has always been there with me for all those memories I'll never forget such as the first time I drove my new truck, tearing apart a rental bulldozer, changing the oil in my truck, and racing down the snowy road chasing a moose down. I'm proud to have taken the third largest white tail buck ever taken in Washington State history and to wear Carhartt while doing it.

Zipper replacement

I was told that if I had a Carhartt coat and the zipper broke that your company would replace the zipper. Is that true?

Leaking work boots.

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
I purchased new Carhartt Work boots, Style #3924 (mens steel toe 9" work boot) on September 25, 2009. I'm in the construction field, so the boots are used on an industrial level. Both boots at the pivot point on the outside of me feet have begun to leak water. i can't be in rain water or near any puddles, or my feet become soaked withing a few minutes. it looks like the seams are leaking. I paid $200.00 for these. What can be done?

My Tough Job: Father / Farmer

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 by Tough Jobs

My name is James Rademann and I'm from Jefferson City, Missouri.

The toughest and most rewarding job I have is being a father. Attached is a picture of my seven-month-old son Calvin and myself after I came in from farming one day last week. We like to start them young, wearing the right gear. Calvinâ??s bibs are 9 years old; our daughter Paige was the first to wear them back in 2001. Thanks for the great lasting products.

Carhartt Cuties: Double The Fun

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 by Carhartt Blog Team

We received this picture of two Carhartt Cuties from Fawn Simpson of Milano, Tx. Fawn says her twins usually wear Carhartt at the farm, but it was perfect to keep them warm as they cheered her on while she ran a marathon at the beach. Thanks for sharing, Fawn!

My Carhartt's Saved My Butt

Monday, February 15, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
On January 7, 2010 after this year's first snowfall with the temperature hovering around 10 degrees, I went for a walk in a wooded area near my home. When I was about a half mile from home and almost a quarter mile from the nearest road I stepped in a frozen snow covered puddle of water. I say I stepped in the puddle because the toe of my left boot broke through the ice and trapped my foot. Due to forward momentum my right foot slid forward forcing my body to drop with all of my weight on my left leg rupturing the patellar tendon in my left knee. Since I had no cell phone and my wife didn't know where I was I decided to try to stand on my good leg and hobble home. When I tried to stand I slipped, twisted, fell, and ruptured the patellar tendon in my right knee. Fortunately, I was wearing my 25 year old Carhartt overalls. I had to drag myself on my backside out of the woods and a good distance down a gravel road about 400 yards total before I was rescued. My Carhartts protected my rear end from frostbite and abrasions. My wife said she could find no signs of excess wear. Thank you for a great product.

Loose fit size vs relaxed fit size

Sunday, February 14, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
I presently have several pairs of Carhartt B11 Washed Duck work Dungaree that I really like the fit. I was looking at your jeans....the B213 (1889 relaxed fit jean) and the B189 Series 1889 Loose fit jean. Which of these 2 jeans comes closer to matching the size/fit of the B11 washed duck? Also, if I order and it does not fit, what do I do? Thanks

Blizzard Conditions

Sunday, February 14, 2010 by My Carhartt Story
I am a line technician for the local cable company and here recently we received a little over 30 inches of and and had winds topping 60mph. The whole time I had on my Carhartt bibs and coat and remained fairly warm and dry. I don't care how many layers I could have had on I would have never stayed warm enough without your products to cut that chill from the wind. We work in the worst conditions at times but your clothes defiantly make our jobs a little easier.
